volume selection is not enough, have to select a folder?

#1 Post by perpendicular »

Hello,

when I select my external drive under Mac OS X in /Volumes/external_drive it seems it is not enough to do so, because when I just highlight that entry and then click ok or search/recover the files get written into /Volumes on the local disk (not the external disc!!!) and not into /Volumes/external_drive.

When I create a folder "example" on external_drive and then instead go to /Volumes/external_drive/example the files get written to the external drive into the folder "example".

Do I always have to create a folder or what am I doing wrong?

These are the steps:
1. I select ..
2. in the new directory showing up I select .. again
3. here I select /Volumes
4. I select "ohne titel" (which is the external drive) this is not enough, I have to do step 5 and select a folder
5. I select the folder that I previously created on the external drive.
