I used photo rec as per instructions available on wikihow the files are recovered also but it is in .eCtyptfs format and few are in .exe format as well.
I have no idea how to open it.

Are you using an Android phone ? Which version ?
Looks like the media you are recovering from stores your pictures in encrypted form.
Ignore the exe files but put the .eCryptfs files back to your memory card and try to open them using the file manager.
