Windows USB HD accidentally formatted by a Mac

Hi guys. I did a stupid thing last night. My daughter uses a Mac and she needed some extra space so I gave her an external USB hard drive to use. I haven't used this one in years so I told her it was OK to just format it and use it. An hour later, my wife remembered she had some old photos stored there. Do you think there is a chance to recover the Windows files now that it has been formatted by a Mac and our daughter placed some Mac files there, too?

Which software would be the most likely to help?

Thanks in advance.

Marvin

You can use testdisk 7.0 or better 7.1-WIP to recover your lost NTFS partition.
Run TestDisk, Analyse, Quick Search, Stop, if your NTFS partition is not listed, choose Deeper Search.
Set your NTFS partition as P(rimary), on next screen, choose Write, confirm, BackupBS, confirm, Quit and restart your computer.
If you can't access your files, use PhotoRec, choose [Whole] instead of [Free] after selecting the partition.
