Files recovered, but all jumbled up

#1 Post by somethingnew »

Hi, I have just used PhotoRec to recover files from a 16gb Kingston memory stick which was giving an error of 'needs formatting before using'.
After running the test disk I think I have recovered all my files, photos etc, but they are not in the original folders or correct order, and most are mixed together in 16 different folders - recup_dir.1 to recup_dir.16
Is there any way to put them in the original order or folders, or is there a different way to recover the files and keep them in their original folders ?
It took about 2 hours to recover them, and I am very happy to have them, but it will take me many many hours to sort them out.
If there is a better way to recover files and keep them together, please tell me.
Thank You

Yes, it's possible to sort the recovered files, read https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf chapter "After using PhotoRec"
