I tried photorec to recover files from ext4, but I can't view folders staring with .

Currently you can select select a directory starting with a dot as the destination when using qphotorec but not when using testdisk or photorec.
As a workaround, you can create another directory and move it the directory of your choice once the recovery is completed.
