Using photorec on Mac HFS RAID

I was called by a member of my family because she accidently formatted her external HFS disk in quick mode on her mac. I search for tools and found photorec that looked very promising.
Althoug the tool found lots of images back, they were all corrupted when trying to open them.
After a few attempts, I understood that the problem was that her external drive are actually two external drives that were in RAID-0. I did't know such devices could exist.
So basically I have on disk of the array untouched and the other one formatted.
Is there anyway to tell photo rec to perform its search on two disks instead of one?
Do I need first to find a way to put the first disk back in the RAID mode and then, there would be a special device create on which I could try to run photorec? (I'm familiar with linux but OSX is quite unknown for me.)
