Not Enough Free Space Available

Hi All,
First time using PhotoRec to recover files from an 4tb hdd.
I am using a 2tb External HDD to recover files to.

I ran the software and it started recovering files but for some weird reason it stopped recovering and gave this error:
Warning: not enough free space available. Please select a destination to save the recovered files to.

I created another folder on the drive and selected that as a new destination, yet still receiving the same error message.

The data so far saved totals to 261GB and my HDD still has 1.37TB of free space.
Please advise why it keeps giving that error?

I have attached the screenshot of space on my HDD, PhotoRec error and new folder selected, and the properties of the 1st folder it recovered files to.

Image

Thanks
Shaq

When PhotoRec failed to write new data to the file, it deletes the file it was writing and ask for more space. If this file was 1.37TB, it explains why you have now 1.37TB of free space at this moment.
To make it short, if you are recovering from a 4 TB HDD, you need a 4TB HDD to store the recovered files.
If you are really sure, it's not a problem of disk space, some antivirus have blocked PhotoRec to write new data, you may want to start in safe mode and disable your antivirus during the recovery.

I understand the file size issue but I know all the files in my 4tb HDD.
It was not fully used.. at most it was filled halfway.
Also there were no files sizing up to 1.37 tb, most it would be few gigs a file like a home video or movies or a software.
I only have Malwarebytes and windows defender. should I try turning them off?
and if I do restart the process will it start recovering the same files as before or continue from where it left off?

I ran the program as Admin even though my windows account is local admin
