Hi There,
i'm trying to recover Data from various external Harddrives (5 HDDs). Three of them ran through without any problem and I was able to recover the Data. On the other two there is the following Problem:
At a specific point PhotoRec stops to recover or at least doesn't continue, example:
Pass 1 - Reading sector stops at approx. 6.000.000 and then jumps back to approx 3.000.000 then starts going to 6 mil again and jump back to 3 mil, this is going on for about 2 h now. Same on the other HDD but at a different number.
On one HDD this happened after 57 files were recovered on the other after 39 files were recovered. If i quit and restart the same thing will happen at the same number again.
What does that mean? How do I fix this?
PhotoRec doesn't continue

Re: PhotoRec doesn't continue
Each time PhotoRec jumps back and forth, it should have recovered another file at least.
Use latest PhotoRec 7.1-WIP.

Re: PhotoRec doesn't continue
thanks for the response i'm using 7.1 WIP.
in the beginning this is what happened, each time it jumped back and forth 1 file was recovered. But at some point it won't recover any more files. the files are stuck at 57 files (jumping back and forward beginning at 53) and stuck at 39 files (jumping back and forward beginning at 31).
i'm using mac osx (all updates installed)

Re: PhotoRec doesn't continue
example:
the jumping back and forth started at approx. 25 min, running for 12 hours on file 39 now.
the HDD i'm trying to recover files from is not damaged.
i got this error on my mac osx machine as well as on my win 7 machine.

Re: PhotoRec doesn't continue
Why are you recovering files from whole disk instead of from a partition ?

Re: PhotoRec doesn't continue
just to get it right,
recovering [Whole] will recover the files that i see on the disc as well as the deleted
recovering [free] will only recover the files that have been deleted and not recovere the files that i can see in the explorer on the disc
but why does this error even if i want to recover the whole disc occure?
