Trying to recover files from a corrupt Flashdrive

#1 Post by dcaster »

Hi all,

So I've been ejecting my Flashdrive before taking it out of the USB port for years in order to prevent file corruption, but occasionally it gets bumped and detaches. Today, it got bumped a few times, and I guess it had enough.

Long story short, a friendly user from Reddit got me this far, but we've hit a point where neither of us know how to proceed.

I'm very inexperienced with this, so I'm essentially learning as I go.

Here's where I'm at.

After hitting Analyse, this message appears: "Partition sector doesn't have the endmark 0xAA55"

After hitting Quick Search, the next screen reads blank, but gives me these options: "Keys A: add partition, L: load backup, Enter: to continue"

After hitting Enter, this message appears: "No partition found or selected for recovery"

After hitting Deeper Search, I get the same result.

I don't know how to proceed in retrieving my files from this point.

As an aside, I will be sure to backup my Flashdrive weekly (at the very least), as I've essentially lost all my work, lecture notes, syllabuses, and so on for this semester which started three weeks ago.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Run "cmd" (right click run as administrator) and "chkdsk /f d:" (replace d: by the correct drive letter).
Does it solve the problem ? If it's not the case, please copy/paste the error message.

The error message received was:

"Cannot open volume for direct access."

If you'd like to see what I've attempted so far, here's a link to the question that got me here.
