Hi
I had some pics and clips on my C: partition (which also has the OS on)
formatted and reinstalled win on C: (been using the laptop for like 3 days max now)
is there any way I can recover those files or are they lost forever since it is on the bootable partition ?
thank you in advance

Try to recover your files using PhotoRec.
Be careful to store the recovered files on another partition than C:
If few files are recovered, enable the Expert mode in Options, start a recovery and when asked, use a blocksize of 512 bytes.
Use the default options otherwise.
