No option for .mp4 filetype?

#1 Post by deafen »

I'm doing a recovery on a drive image that I pulled using ddrescue. The OS is Linux Mint 19.0 (so, basically, Ubuntu). I'm using PhotoRec 7.1-WIP, downloaded on 22-Dec.

There are lots of references online to the .mp4 filetype (including at https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/File_Fo ... y_PhotoRec), but I don't see that option in the UI. When I click on .mp4 on that webpage, it goes to the source file for .mov recovery.

Are these formats effectively equivalent? In other words, will it recognize files that were originally .mp4 as .mov and recover them okay?

mov file family contains mov, mp4, m4p, 3gp, 3g2 and others. PhotoRec will try to find the "usual" extension.
Even if looking for mp4 only, it's recommended to not disable the other filetypes unless you have a good reason to do so.
