Hi I have a 32G toshiba usb that is very important to me. every time when I try to access it I get this message "The request could not performed because of an I/O devices error" I searched on google to find the solution and the most appearing solution was to run this command "chkdsk /f m:".....m being the name of the drive. I tried this but i get message "Cannot open volume for direct access"

Try to clone your USB key using ddrescue as explained in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf
If it works, open the image file using PhotoRec
If ddrescue doesn't work, you should contact a data recovery company.
Good luck

Thanks for the solution. I've asked the same on PCadvisor, but they redirected me to this topic. It doesn't look like a software error to me, I thought it was most likely the hardware error. I used TestDisk and PhotoRec.

I/O device error?
Connect the drive to another computer to exclude external error sources.
If the error persists use a professional recovery service.
