Deep Scan?

I'm using PhotoRec 7.0 and read the "How it Works" section but I'd like to know if this utility can actually deep-scan for overwritten data - find older data underneath newer data in other words. I couldn't find that answer in the documentation or from a GUI option but I get a few hits when searching for "deep" in the forum. Could someone tell me if PhotoRec can deep-scan in this way, either by default or if there's some option?

No software can recover overwritten data.

I just read about Quick Scan, Deep Scan, and Physical Scan (
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/hom ... help_en_us). Which scans are supported by PhotoRec?

Photorec includes but is not limited to "Deep Scan" and "Physical Scan".
These are just Norton marketing terms for certain parameter sets.
If you read the documentation
https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf
you'll see that you are able to search on disks or limit the search to a partition. Furthermore you can specify the type of space (unallocated/complete).
The pdf file above contains as well instructions what to do for a "Quick scan" - I don't go into details because I want to encourage reading the manual!
