Files written to NTFS by Linux; Windows reports partition is empty; Still viewable in Linux

#1 Post by JasonF4 »

Here's a summary of what happened. Prepare Windows for dual-system with Linux - disable all of fast-boot, secure-boot, and hibernation. Create NTFS partition in Windows (brand new partition). Reboot into Linux. Run PhotoRec. Reboot into Windows. The partition is reported to be empty. Reboot in Linux. The 400GB+ of files are still there.

Originally I tried this with that partition being formated exFAT, and EXACTLY the same thing happened. I posted a question about that here a couple days ago. After going back and forth between the OS's, the files disappeared in Linux. So, I'm not going back and forth again, until I get an answer. This is very, very odd. I have a degree in Computer Science, and I have never seen anything like this.

I also posted this to SuperUser: https://superuser.com/questions/1514970 ... by-linux-b
I posted screencaps showing diskmgmt.msc and GParted, and some output from a terminal.

Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Lenovo Ideapad i7.
