WD My Passport Photos Recovery With Photorec

#1 Post by igauravarora »

Hi,

My external hard drive my passport suddenly stopped working. I was on MacOS catalina and when i connected it, wd unlocker didn't open for some reason. I did some digging and found out problems of wd harddrive with catalina. After that, I tried some solution provided online with the help of WD Security tool to access my harddrive but I couldn't. However, I was able to remove and put a password on the harddrive which seemed odd.

As I have important pictures stored on it, I didn't format it. Looking for a solution I installed ubuntu and tried WD Decrypter tool but it didn't work. Then At last i installed windows on bootcamp and I am running photorec on the hard drive.

The thing I want to ask is that it's on Pass 0 for last 54hours and it has slowed down considerably from last few hours. Should I leave it running? or am I wasting my time. I chose the file options to only search for jpg, png, psd files and the hard drive is of 2 terabytes. If there's some other solution I would appreciate the help.

I have attached the screenshot below.

PhotoRec will not work as long as the disk is encrypted.

But i removed the password, it means it's decrypted right? or do i have to do something else first? Sorry, I'm kind of a noob at this.
