TestDisk found my formatted partition, but I cant write them

#1 Post by chrisrand »

Hello everyone,

OK, so here is the story. I was editing the partitions on an extra internal drive on my Mac Pro running Lion 10.7.5. I accidentally selected the entire drive and not the partition that I needed to erase and now all my data and the partitions are just one single formatted drive called Untitled.

So I booted up to a spare install of Lion and used TestDisk to hopefully recover my partitions. It finds the correct partitions right away, but after I tell it to write the partition structure and reboot, the drive still shows up as just one partition named Untitled.

I must mention that I have read all the instructions before hand and read through the forums already. I unmounted the disk before launching TestDisk and I did launch it with sudo. I have tried dev/disk0 and dev/rdisk0. I have also used TestDisk in the past, but for some strange reason its not working for me this time.

What could be the issue?

I have uploaded all the screenshots of my progress for you to double check my work.

Thanks

Your partition is listed in the current partition table, so no need to use TestDisk to search for the partition. Your partition isn't lost, you have reformated it! Use PhotoRec instead. Good luck for renaming all the recovered files...

The thing is, I have made the mistake before of formatting the wrong disk from Disk Utility and TestDisk has been able to recover the partitions every time, except this time.

Why is it that the old partition scheme is found, but can't be written back on this drive?

I have attached the log file for anyone able to look it over.

Thanks

I don't find any logfile?
As you reported your topic, you're not able to upload your logfile, did you get any message?
Did you use a supported file format to upload?
Also, you can copy and paste the content of your testdisk.log into your next post.
