3TB Volume will not mount

#1 Post by regnaDkciN »

Error happened when drive was removed during shut down on Mac 10.8.5. Disk Utilities said it couldn't be repaired (Volume showed up but couldn't mount) then, moved drive to MacBook, running Mavericks, using docking station and immediately Volume disappeared from Disk Utilities. :oops: I believe this 3TB Toshiba oem drive was formatted exFAT but it is showing up in TestDisk as HFS (which could be true) .
TestDisk revealed as follows:

Disk /dev/rdisk2 - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB - 1565565872 sectors
Analyse cylinder 1345126400/1565565871: 85%
check_FAT: Unusual media descriptor (0xf0!=0xf8)
Warning: number of heads/cylinder mismatches 16 (FAT) != 1 (HD)
Warning: number of sectors per track mismatches 32 (FAT) != 1 (HD)
EFI System 40 409639 409600 [EFI]
Mac HFS 409640 1171861383 1171451744

Have not written to drive yet. Do not have Windows system that will read a 3TB hd (but will build one if needed)
Volume Name is HaBango_14 name shows up in Remo but disappears after scanning.

I think Team TestDisk can help me figure this out.

We need to find out what the real partition is. Rebuild it. Recover Volume (including file names) and copy to new drive.

Have PayPal and I'm not afraid to use it :D

    Structure: Ok. Use Up/Down Arrow keys to select partition.
    Use Left/Right Arrow keys to CHANGE partition characteristics:
    P=Primary D=Deleted
    Keys A: add partition, L: load backup, T: change type,
    Enter: to continue

I have exactly the same problem, and am stuck in the same spot. But I have HFS system
A deeper search lists a bunch of identical:
Disk /dev/disk3 - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB - 732558336 sectors (RO)

The harddisk (3000 GB / 2794 GiB) seems too small! (< 3000 GB / 2794 GiB)
Check the harddisk size: HD jumpers settings, BIOS detection...

The following partitions can't be recovered:
Partition Start End Size in sectors
> HFS 83983 732558338 732474356
HFS 83993 732558348 732474356
HFS 83995 732558350 732474356
HFS 84031 732558386 732474356
HFS 84041 732558396 732474356
HFS 84053 732558408 732474356
HFS 84059 732558414 732474356
HFS 84067 732558422 732474356
HFS 84082 732558437 732474356
HFS 84104 732558459 732474356

But once I got to a spot where it listed my files, and offered to copy them, but I could not find a different disk as a target. And I cannot figure out how to get there again.
