Help Recovering after format

#1 Post by kar90 »

Good morning, i am trying to recover my olde partitions and docuemnts using testdisk without success. I used to have two partitions C (50 gb) and E(250 gb), i reinstalled my windows vista and after the reinstallation windows created a partition C of 20 gb . The partition E with all mu docuements is lost. I created a new partition in the empty unrecognized space ( new partition E of 300 gb) and i formatted it to be recognized by windows. After that i used testdisk to try to find the documents that used to be in E but nothing appeared. I have tried too eliminating that partition again and using testdisk to find the old partitions but i didnt get my lost partition.
Thanks

If you'd like to achieve best results, you should run testdisk deeper search (not only quick search).
If partitions are found, you can mark them and press p to have a try to list your files.
You can open your testdisk.log (within your testdisk folder) using a wordprocessor like wordpad and copy and paste the content into your next post.

Re: Help Recovering after format

For the safety of the reserved data, you’d better not overwrite or format this partition next time before you’ve rescued all important data back.
In fact, I have ever had the similar formatted partition data loss problems and tried a lot of data recovery software online, like Recuva, TestDisk, iCare Data Recovery Free and more.
All of them worked well on my computer and finally, I had restored all my wanted files and videos back successfully.
Therefore, you may take chances with other similar data recovery programs.
Next time, always make data backups all the time.
I hope my words can help you.

As already mentionned above, you shouldn't write anything to an affected disk after loss of data.
Looks like that your myfolder is empty?
In case, datarecovery software might help.
You can try PhotoRec.
PhotRec doesn't keep file names, folder and directories.
Some information;
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step

Another useful tip, you can use PhotRec / File opt and pressing s to deselect all unneeded files and mark only your required files, where you'd like to recover.

If you'd like to recover file names and directories, you'd need/test commercial datarevovery software.
