RAW disk, no partition detected

#1 Post by yarboclo »

Hi, I have the external drive from a friend, it's a WD 500 Gb, he had a problem transferring the information to the PC and now appears as empty, with RAW format in Disk Manager, and when is connected to the PC take long to access it.

When is analyzed with Testdisk (intel) don't find partitions (Partition: Read error), nor with quick search or search deeper, only find errors constantly.

I suppose now I have to do is write the MBR, but I want to assure.

Many thanks

I add a portion of the log file:

Most of recent WD external disk are encrypted and need to be accessed by their own sata-usb interface. Please plug the disk by usb and try again to scan.

Hello, thanks for answer.
It's connected with his USB cable. It can't be connected directly because don't have a standard SATA connection.

Did you use testdisk 64bit?
You should use testdisk 32bit instead and don't choose drive bit disk.
Disk is your physically disk and not a partition (drive)
A partition doesn't have a partition table because the partition table is a part of the MBR.

Can your repeat your diagnose and open your testdisk.log using a wordprocessor like wordpad?
Text might be better readable.
You can copy and paste the content of your testdisk log direct into your next post using code or quote!

Hello, I'm using the version of 32 bits.
I select this (now is connected to my laptop):

I paste only a portion of log file, because despite I stoped the analisys after 2 or 3 seconds, is a file with a lot of pages plenty of error lines.

Re: RAW disk, no partition detected

#6 Post by yarboclo »

Hello, now I get, after wait a long time, that hard disk appears on my PC with its content and format NTFS.
Long time to access the files and do not open properly in Windows.
TestDisk recognize it as "Disk", and find a partition and files. I'm copying files to another drive, and it seems that open well, but is very slow, it takes 12 hours for a video and some more.
Any advice?

Many thanks

If it takes so long, it might be possible that you have read errors, bad sectors or a faulty file system.
Read erros can cause that testdisk or your OS hang.
You should check your disk using crystal disk info.
Please use the portable version, because the windows installer (exe) contains adware open candy.

Hello, I'm checking the disk with HDD Regenerator trying to repair bad sectors, but is very slow too, 0.48% in 13 hours...
Can I do anything else?

Many thanks

HDD Regenerator cannot repair physically damaged sectors, perhaps soft bads?
Have you had success to copy your files?
