need some help

#1 Post by Vizionz »

I have a external western digital essentials drive that is now showing up as raw. when i have tried other harddrive programs it will show the data but there is no file system so cant access it. need some step by step instruction on how to do this with testdisk.i have looked through a few of the examples on the wiki and by google but still not figuring it out.

i do the quick search it shows one partition deeper search will show the same partition. so thats where i am stuck. i can post any info in this thread that you need just need to figure it out. i have like 700 gb worth of data i dont want to lose.

Hey Vizionz,

It's a little bit hard to say but there is nothing to do with your drive. If the file system shows RAW it will be very hard to get your data back, of course if you are not a hard drive guru. Actually there are some Data Recovery programs. You can try to google them, may be this will help. I guess you didn't make a backup of your drive. So in this particular case the best option will be a Data Recovery Company which will get your info back if it is very important for you.

Here is the link for the Data Recovery Companies:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Hope this helps,

Might be possible that only your boot sector is damaged?
Can you copy and paste the content of your testdisk.log into your next post?
So I can see your diagnose using testdisk.
You'll find it within your testdisk folder.
You can open it using an editor or wordpad.

The error message "cyclic redundancy check" shows that your disk contains bad sector.
You can try to recover some files by running TestDisk, Advanced, List and copy.
The best solution will be to clone your disk to a new empty disk using gnu ddrescue.

Or you can try to do the same using Acronis Tool. I think you have it with your essentials. Try to clone it and everything will be fine. If this does not help, the only way will be Data Recovery.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Hope this helps,
