Re: Overlapping Partitions C and D-Boot ok-Winxp
Here are solutions to a similar problem. At the end(last sentence) testdisk as part of gparted live is suggested.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/437272/h ... -mbr-table
i have a boot-stick with gparted.
Must really first do a clone before going further steps.

Re: Overlapping Partitions C and D-Boot ok-Winxp
Maybe the solution here?
https://community.norton.com/de/node/568483
e.g. from the conversation above.
PM 8 does that especially to 2048 sector aligned partions. With primary partitions it is easy to fix but your partitions are logical volumes.
ME:"I hope i dont have logical partitions, maybe YES. What then?"
I think you will have to copy all data in the Data partition to another HD and then delete the Data partition. The Archive partition should then be OK. Now you can created another Data partition.
I tried to resize Data partition using EASEUS Partition Master but this error occured :
There are some error occured while locking volum D:
Should I try to resize it using a EASEUS boot CD ?
Yes, try it. We know BIBM won't do it.
Edit... Move about 30 GB out of the partition before you try the resize to give it some breathing space. Try resizing 1 GB smaller.
ME: "i cant see data on partition D or do i have access.
I will first clone and then should i do this? "
The following is still from the conversation in norton-community.
I resized the Data partition and the overlap resolved.
ME:
How about trying out datarecovery wizard since photorec could not recover videos from my other external drive(non-boot)?

Re: Overlapping Partitions C and D-Boot ok-Winxp
Did a new scan. Here are the results of the 5 partitions shown:
C primary
D, E, F extended
D is overlapping C
i cant see these data.
Here is what they show
0 1 1 9137 254 63 146801907 Winxp
0 1 1 243200 254 63 39070124002 P, files, cant open filesystem, Filesystem seems damaged
9138 1 1 91770 254 63 1327499082 no P option/ files to check
91771 1 1 217091 254 63 2013281802 P, files visible and backed up, Not the ones i want to see
91771 1 2 217091 254 63 2013281801 P, files, cant open filesystem, Filesystem seems damaged
Will clone drive before doing next steps.
btw: with clonezilla i could only clone 1: 1 from 500gb to 1tb. how to expand? at least i have now space to save data to. Thank you very much for explanations to understand what is wrong and what must be done to make partitions visible again. btw: did not make changings after last scan, shown screenshots.

Re: Overlapping Partitions C and D-Boot ok-Winxp
here are the four partitions:
C: 70gb BOOT-WINXP
D: 633GB non-visible overlapping-errorfree
E: 960 GB visible
F: 200gb-free space
(ex-acronis-secure zone-was not copied during cloning). original is messed up.

Cannot clone. Not possible with this drive.
maybe this solution?
http://askubuntu.com/questions/437272/h ... -mbr-table.
can i use knoppix instead? both are linux or not? maybe backup remaining partitions or E only. deleting E which follows ovelapping D.
