PhotoRec keeps "recovering" identical files over and over

#1 Post by newtothis »

My macbook did some weird voodoo on my external drive and disappeared almost 200GB of data.

I hooked up my drive to a windows computer and started PhotoRec... it seemed to work at first, but now, for the past 6 hours or so, it's just been creating new directories and putting in the exact same files in them over and over (like 100s of dirs with the same photos being created over and over).

Why is this happening? Why isn't it finding other photos? Is it stuck? I don't see any error messages in the console.

Anyone know how to fix this? :( Should I use another tool??

Did you choose to store the recovered files on the partition you are recovering from ?

No, I chose to save them on an internal drive in my laptop. I ended up having to stop the scan and used revival to get my photos out instead. It took longer and doesn't tell you what sector it's reading atm, but at least it worked. No clue why photorec wouldn't work though :/
