1TB hfs+ journaled GPT partition deleted from Windows

#1 Post by ltpitt »

Hi all!
I just deleted a partition containing all my life, of course without any backup.
I've been whipping myself for hours but, afair, the problem seems smaller than what I thought...

I used Storage Manager for windows and accidentally (my fault 100% but a simple "are you sure?" sometimes will do) deleted an HFS+ partition.

I've ran testdisk and it found the partition almost immediately and what I see now is:

Disk \\.\PhysicalDrive3 - 1000 GB / 931 GiB - CHS 121601 255 63
Partition Start End Size in sectors
D EFI System 40 409639 409600 [EFI]
D MS Data 63 1953503999 1953503937
>D Mac HFS 409640 1953262983 1952853344

If I press "p" so see the data the option is not supported but I think I can do the recovery anyway...

I made a perfect clone with dd as suggested in the FAQ so if I mess something I can reclone and retry.

What should I do now? If I understood correctly from the examples the data I should keep is "EFI System" and "Mac HFS": how can I achieve that? I should put both to Primary and leave MS Data to Deleted?

I am sorry if the question is silly but I fear to press enter now.

Use the arrow keys to switch the 2 partitions to recover from D(eleted) to P(rimary)

I was almost sure about that but now that you wrote it I'll do it without a doctor close to me.

Thanks a lot for your time and patience: it's really appreciated.
