PHOTOREC can't find any file during scan

#1 Post by Cosmiclight22 »

Hi
I am new to this forum, so I hope i am posting in the right section>
I wanted to find out what else I can do when after Photorec has scanned the whole partition and all files in the external drive and not found any at all, which is impossible since there were 30 at least. Any suggestion on what else i can do to find these files? What other method may be more, or the most effective in un-delete or recover files from a corrupted drive?
Thanks

By default, PhotoRec searchs files on the free space, run PhotoRec on the whole space of the partition.
Does it work better ?

Thank you
Actually I am not sure, because I do not even know what a partition is, but I know for a fact that I have not partitioned my drive prior to use it. But I noticed that before starting the scan, Photorec asked showed that there were no partitions at in my drive and it it said :PARTITION: UNKNOWN
so i chose the only possibility I had, that is: scan the UNKNOWN PARTITION, since there were no others.
and the scan lasted almost 20 hours, saying that 0 of 10 were found, then i interrupted because I had to go to sleep.
So I want to try it again today, any suggestion on how to chose, when it asks me what partition to choose? It only gives me the option of the UNKNOWN PARTITION though,
Please help?
Thank you so much
Anna

Sorry, I did not mean to insert the smiley face, it was supposed to be P, first letter in PARTITION

When you start PhotoRec, choose a PhysicalDrive, not a drive letter (C:, D:, E:...)

I did choose the PHYSICAL DRIVE, and see, this is what happens when I hit Enter, it says Partition Unknown, please look at the screen shot I attached
Any suggestion on what else to do? It keeps on not seeing any file at all
Thanks
A.

Run TestDisk, Advanced, Image Creation. It will create a 15GB image.dd file. Compress this file. What is the size of the archive ?

To compress the file, create a zip archive (google is your friend)

Hi I am having a similar issue. Figured I could post it here instead of a new thread...

Background: Trying to recover files (primarily pictures and music but would like to get everything back if possible) from a 32GB SanDisk microSD which corrupted while in my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I have not written new files or attempted to format the drive with the intention of attempting a file recovery.

The phone no longer recognizes and mounts the SD card.
Windows gives me a message stating that I need to format my drive before using it.
I have tried to run chkdsk as admin on the SD card but I keep getting a response that "the type of file system is RAW" and chkdsk does not work RAW drives.

Through internet searching I came across a recommendation for your software specifically working when chkdsk gives the RAW message. I have tried utilizing the photorec_win but I am noticing that when selecting the drive it is listed as being 32MB when the card is in fact 32GB.

The message displayed at the bottom of the program states it should not show up that way.

I have gone through the process of trying to recover files but with no results. It searches twice for about 2 seconds each and I get a response that there are no files found.

Do you have any recommendations of what to try?
