I'm using it on Windows. Can I do that through CygWin? Also if it's possible could you please consider adding some sort of progress indicator for BruteForce to be sure that it's actually moving forward even when the sector count remains stuck for dozens of hours?

I am running into the same issue. PhotoRec has recovered about 4,500 files and has gone through about 635,965 sectors of 465,194,295 but now its stuck it will not continue to scan the rest. Its does drop to about 619,342 and then rescans to 635,965 and its been on this for about 8 hrs now. PLEASE HELP..

I'm pretty much having the same Issue. While recovering it keeps jumping between sector 6.1 mio and 6.3 mio. The Photorect.ses states that he is long past that point but he didn't recover any files.

Short update: I just started a new recovery using Qphotorec and it seems to be working. I've passed the point where it cycled and it looks promising.

I know it's been a while, but I'm getting this same behavior as well, Photorec 7.0 windows 10 64bit (not 64bit Photorec, although that could be a potential issue I guess). I've successfully imaged the damaged drive to a known good drive, and am saving found files to a tertiary drive. It cycles through about 3 general areas, going down to 62x then jumping to 63x, which counts up to 64x and then jumps back to 62x.

And I guess while I'm here I'd like to say thanks for making these softwares. I've used them a couple of times now for friends and whatnot and they (generally) work well and are very easy to use, definitely going to drop a donation.

Hi,

thanks for your great tool photorec. I was running qphotorec 7.0 from fedora 25 dist. I experienced that recovering one disk, the program was stuck on sector and was keeping growing one doc file. Then I download the photorec 7.1 from cgsecurity website. Now the programs shows sectors going on, but it still keep growing a doc file that now reached more than 100gb. I'm trieing to keep the program going on reseting the file by cat /dev/null > filename, but this is a problem because it fill up the disk with broken data.

I have to mention another bug on qphotorec 7.0. It needs to run by root user to access physical devices, however on fedora that uses wayland as replacement than X it is a problem. Running qphotorec by sudo using the workaround xhost local:+; sudo qphotorec has problems because it opens a empty window and the application can't be used.

Try QPhotoRec 7.1-WIP instead

Code: Select all

xhost +local:
sudo -s
dnf copr enable grenier/testdisk
dnf install testdisk qphotorec
qphotorec
