Partition with bad boot sectors (see log)

#1 Post by phil51 »

Hello,

I'm struggling to recover important files on a friend's damaged HDD.
From TestDisk, we know that the boot sectors are bad or cannot be read.
Could you give us some advice on what to do next (see attached log) ?

The Partition we tried to recover is the following one :
Disk /dev/sda - 640 GB / 596 GiB - TOSHIBA MK6465GSX
3 P HPFS - NTFS 1917 59 4 155649 232 39 2469715515

Thanks in advance,
Phil

Try try Boot, RebuildBS, List. If you can see your files, choose Write and confirm.

Thanks for the suggestion.
It ended up however with bad sectors again.
We now plan a ddrescue to be sure to have a backup.
What would you advise afterwards ?

Regards, Philippe
