lost partition and damaged filesystem

#1 Post by sebbo »

Dear testdisk users,

I need help with testdisk.

I've had two 2000 gb disks mounted in a NAS mode RAID Filesystem: ext4

One day there appeared a NTFS partition on both disks. The ext4 Partition was not accessible anymore.
I tried testdisk deeper search. Test disk does not find any ext4 partitions just several hsf+ besides the NTFS one. Unfortunately i do not have the log of the deeper search anymore. One search routine lasts 2 days. I ca do a new one if it helps.
Testdisk can not access the HSF+ partiotions for file listing.
I now tried to restore the mbr but testdisk was not able to do it. This operation also took 2 days. Please find the Log attached.

can anybody help me how I can recover the partition? I also tried photorec, but recovering the stored 1,5 tb would last 200h and the whole folder structure is gone. I am very despered at the moment :(

Re: lost partition and damaged filesystem

What kind of RAID did you have before?
Did you have a RAID1 Mirrored?
Is your RAID degraded and did you scan only a single disk?
It's unusual that a scan of a 2 TB disk takes so long.
Did you get any read errors?
Especially if you're running partition table type Intel which scans for cylinder and 1 cylinder will be approximately 8 MB.
Most important would be to find your previous Ext4-Partition.
Probably NTFS wouldn't be as much helpful.

Hallo Fiona!
Disks were mounted raid1 mirror in icybox nas. Unfortunately i wasn't able to find the original ext4 Partition again. At the moment i am perfotming a deeper search so i can post the log with more informatiin here. I did the scan with only one of the two disks connecTed via usb controller.
Thanks sebbo.

The latest version of TestDisk 7.1WIP could be a little bit faster.
Is available since today.
But as far as I've seen you're using Ubuntu.
If it's possible can you run a diagnose under Windows and using the latest version?
Most important would be that a backup of a superblock would be found and the partition uses exactly the size of your previous partition.
In some cases it helped to scan the mirror disk too.
If your ext4-partition would be found, please select it and press p to have a try to list your files
