Recovering files to external source

#1 Post by PerC6 »

Hi Everyone,

I am having trouble navigating the testdisk tool.
My Raid5 of 4 disks droke down but for some reason I am not having any luck restoring everything to how it used to be.
I did manage to find all my files and i want to recover them. The problem is that there is no place I can write them to. How do i change directory because it seems I can only write to the C-drive and that is not big enough. How to I navigate to D or F or what not? Can I write to an external harddrive that is connected via USB?

Hope some one can advice me. Many thanks.

After selecting your files for recovery:
On the upper area of your display you can select these two dots and press enter.
Each time you'll get one directory up until you get to your disk selection.
There you can select another disk or partition, where you'd like to recover your data to.
Also, you can create a folder on your destination drive in advance.
You can select your folder and enter it using the right arrow key on your keyboard.
Pressing C will start the recovery process.

I am still not seeing any other drive but my solution was to run testdisk on the destination drive and then scan the the partion and do the copying.

I have another question: It is now copying and so far 29items failed to be copied, can I get a list of those failed items somehow?

Exact steps please just so I mess up any change of properly seeing what I am missing. Lots of holiday pics so don't want to lose anything. Is there a was still getting those failed files to copy?

Many thanks,
Alwin

Did you select your folders with photos only?
Might be possible that failed files were either systemfiles or corrupted?
Often folder like Recycler or system volume information?
Unfortunately, copied and failed files are not listed.

I copied everything that was on the disk. The counter is for individual files and not blocks or clusters or anything? So i literily miss 30 files of the 50000? Awesome i can risk that probably.
