Hi - newbie here so apologies for foolish question in advance. Searched board but couldn't find solution for my question.
I have a iMac with a HD that won't boot and I can't access using as a target disk. My backup wasn't connected since march 15 and i'm trying to recover the photos from my iPhoto library imported march to november 15.
When I connect it to my replacement iMac I can see the Macintosh HD as a target disk but can't search it using finder or terminal.
Using sudo mode I can see more than one disk, but can't tell which one is my current working HD (they are both 3TB) vs the problem drive. Right now here's what shows up:
disk0 - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB
disk1 - 121 GB / 113 GiB
disk3 - 28 MB / 27 MiB
disk4 - 121 GB / 113 GiB
disk5 - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB
rdisk0 - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB
rdisk1 - 121 GB / 113 GiB
rdisk2 - 3114 GB / 2900 GiB
rdisk3 - 28 MB / 27 MiB
rdisk4 - 121 GB / 113 GiB
rdisk5 - 3000 GB / 2794 GiB
rdisk6 - 120 GB / 112 GiB
Any way to figure out which is which other than to run it across both of the large disks and compare? thanks!

Your internal HD is /dev/disk0 (/dev/rdisk0)
