No partition found on pendrive

#1 Post by joanfi »

Hello,

I've got a 4GB USB stick and suddenly stopped responding on Windows 7. A message asking to format the drive appears when trying to open it in File explorer.

I've used "dd" to acquire an image of that 4GB drive, and started Testdrive.

This is what I'm doing:
>Disk pendrive.img - 4037 MB / 3850 MiB
>[Proceed ]
>[Intel]
>[Analyse]
And this is the result:
Partition sector doesn't have the endmark 0xAA55
Going ahead on "[Quick search]" it returns a blank partition table and a "No partition found or selected for recovery" message.

Any ideas on how to retrieve files in the USB stick?

Thank you.

Run TestDisk, Advanced (and not Analyze), Boot, RebuildBS, List. If you can see your files, choose Write, confirm, Quit.
If it doesn't work, try PhotoRec.

Thank you!
Running TestDisk and [Advanced] without [Analyze] doesn't show any partition either.

I've run PhotoRec and it has retrieved me lots of files with names like f2345637.doc with today's date. I'm examinig all files in the hope of finding the valuable files I need.

Is there any way to recover the original name and/or date?

Thanks.
