Help with deleted partition recovery

#1 Post by LividDwarf »

Hello,
I was going to delete a partition from an external drive and reformat... Unfortunately I did this to an internal 2TB drive I use for storage.
Using Gparted from Linux, I deleted a NTFS partition and created an ext4 partition. I have not written anything new to the drive/partition.
Am I doomed? What tests do I need to run to see if I can restore the NTFS partition? Or at least recover data?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Run TestDisk, Analyze, Quick Search, Deeper Search, use the arrow keys to switch the NTFS partition to *(bootable). On next screen, choose Write, confirm, BackupBS, confirm, Quit and restart your computer.

Fantastic, thank you.
Two quick questions. Should I leave the ext4 partition in place? And is there any benefit/downside from running test disk through my Linux install vs a live usb?
