Change drive to write to in photorec

#1 Post by twofiveone »

Hi all, I am a new user who stupidly formatted a disk and find myself having to recover it. This tool is a godsend though.

This is probably a silly question. I want to write my recovered files to a particular drive, say "E:". According to http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec ... be_written I should be able to navigate to the drive letter by going up in the path until I see a drive list. However this is not the case; I can only get to the root of C:

Am I dumb? How do I change the drive I want to write to?

This is important because my C: is not large enough. So as a side question, what happens when a recovery runs out of write space? If the files are written and the session is saved then I could use C: as a buffer and transfer to my larger drive half way through, and I don't have to switch drives in the photorec menú at all. I haven't tried this yet because I'm worried it will just abandon the session and I'll have wasted time.

Thank you in advance.

Using the left arrow key repeatedly should let you select E:. Do you have the problem with latest 7.1-WIP ?
In the worst case, you can move the recup_dir.* directories (except the last one) when PhotoRec is running.
If there is no space left, PhotoRec will ask you to choose another destination and you will be able to continue the recovery.

This is the entire list of options when I go left as far as is possible: http://imgur.com/a/7aTIU.
