Photorec transferring files, not recovering them.

#1 Post by adamhutch »

Hi there;

I'm very new to this, so please bear with me. I ran photorec on an external hard drive, to recover some .mov files that I had accidentally deleted. What photorec seems to have done is, instead of recovering deleted files, just copied over all the existing files.

Have I missed something?

All the best;

Adam

PhotoRec opens the source media as read-only. It has no feature to copy files with their filename.
Files recovered by photorec are in directories named recup_dir.1, recup_dir.2... They should be on another partition than the source.

Thanks Christophe,

I should have made it clear. The files are being renamed and put into those directories, but they are files that exist, undeleted on the hard drive I am trying to recover files from.

None of the files that were 'retrieved' were files that I had previously deleted. If you see what I mean?
