Hi! I used test-disk to recover a deleted partition by simply following the steps at https://ubuverse.com/recover-a-disk-par ... rted-live/
I followed the steps accurately and made sure to select the required partition(sdb6). It successfully recovered my partition but caused me to loose other much more important partitions.
Now my truecrypt partition that used to be located in the first partition has been lost. It used to be a FAT32 file system but now it's showing up as RAW in windows7 disk management and NTFS in gparted on linux. Some partitions are also appearing as unformatted. I want to know whether testdisk redefined the truecrypt partition by itself or did it just restore a previous partition definition(for lack of a better word). In other words, is it actually possible for testdisk to edit partition definitions in a drive when a user does the actions from the above post that I happened to follow or would it merely restore a previous definition in that context? Thanks.

As you do not provide the testdisk.log file, it's difficult to know what you have done...
When you rewrite a partition table, you need to be sure that all partitions you want are listed.
If all partitions are listed but no partition is correct, it may be a problem of sector size detection (512 bytes versus 4096) between your OS and the LiveCD/LiveUSB.
It's probably a good idea to search again for your partitions, read chapter "Recovering deleted partition using TestDisk" from https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf for details.

I have searched for the testdisk.log file in the OS I used testdisk on but it's nowhere to be found. But really all I did was follow the steps written in https://ubuverse.com/recover-a-disk-par ... rted-live/ exactly only difference being my partition was /dev/sdb6. Testdisk recovered that partition successfully but however other partitions were lost after. I believe that probably tetdisk rewrote my partition table.
Do you think I can get back the previous partition definition that testdisk rewrote? And is there a way to get the some information such as partition logs etc. for a VFAT fs from drive using testdisk? I only need to find out the exact size of a truecrypt partition so that I can recover it. So far I only remember the File system type which was FAT32.
