1TB external HD problem - "Partition : Read Error" during analyse wih testdisk

#1 Post by timor »

Hello,
I have problem with my 1TB Western Digital external HD.
i accidentally drop my external HD while using it. After that, My HD is not detected in my computer.
And when i check on disk management, the status shows unknown, unreadable, and unallocated.

I tried to analyse with test disk but it say "Partition : Read Error".
then after quick search, it show read error in the entire process so i just stop it.

Is it possible to recover the data in my HD? really appreciate for your help... :)

The heads are probably damaged. You need to contact a data recovery company.
Software solutions will not help in your case.

not really....
i had the same on a 320GB external disk drive. Tried a laptop with UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD, its Debain Linux): Read Error
Tried a PC with the same UBCD, worked. I could read the partition table etc.
So, for me the only explanation is that hardware chip or hdd controller is different on the mainboard and can read or not read the hdd.
Am i right ? And whats the solution for this ?
