Internal HDD file system failure and lots of bad sectors-Rescue to continue my PhD exam next month

#1 Post by Mwardeh »

Hello Christophe,

I hope my post finds you well! I would like to thank you for this amazing recovery package that you have been developing and I recommended it to my university friends in Missouri- USA.

My problem is that the internal hard disk is having severely damaged OS, but still spinning. I would like to get your help please to rebuild the systems to let me access to my folders.

I have postponed my PhD comprehensive exam due this impact.

I would really appreciate your kind advice!

Merci beaucoup!

Using latest TestDisk 7.1-WIP, try to rewrite the partition table using the same information listed on the screenshot http://imgur.com/a/0wOKP

If there are really bad sectors, you should clone your disk to a new empty one using ddrescue as described in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf

Hi from USA Christophe,

Thanks for the advice. I have been doing rebuild of bad sectors since yesterday. I am wondering hong it should take. Please check it, I hope It won't overwrite the old files.

I tried to start fedora to make ddrescue as per your TestDisk Documentation. I was not able to do that, I remember that trying creating an image divulged 90 GB of bad sectors.

My current HD status is included in the attachment as rebuild of bad sectors. Do you recommend to continue or come back to use ddrescue? However, ddresuce did not work out for me, when I just created fedora bootable on thumb drive and launched it from it without installation.

Could you give your thoughts of recovering the entire disk without linux, I mean just by using testdisk?

Sincerely,

Ward

Hi again Christophe,
I apologize that I forget to ask which partitions I have to write? Is it just rebuild boot sector?

Thanks for your help!
