PhotoRec

#1 Post by lucascgs »

I'm trying to use PhotoRec to recover photos from a 500Gb SATA HDD (it was an external HDD) where I believe the file system is corrupted. After running for over 24 hours on a Windows 10 computer PhotoRec has created over 190Gb of files/folders (recup_dir.1 to recup_dir.11558 folders) but these folders all seem of have identical files inside them (mainly mp3 files and cover album .jpg files).
I cannot read the disk using Windows.
Any suggestions please.

Unless you have made the mistake of writing the recovered files on the source, there should be very few duplicated files mainly due to data defragmentation or manual copy/paste.
Did you try the operations listed in the chapter "Repairing filesystem" https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf ?
