Need Help Choosing Which Partition to Recover

#1 Post by jpkwon16 »

I recently lost a partition and opted for TestDisk for recovery. I am faced with this screen and don't know which partition that the one I wanted to recover. Originally, my hard drive was formatted into two partitions each with 500GB of storage. Then I unpartitioned it but did not know that it would delete one of the partitions in the process. Could you help me decide which one to recover? (I believe the first is one I created using the command prompt on the software)

Thank you.

(Sorry for the photo, I ran out of memory on my mac and it is not letting me empty the trash for some reason)

Use the arrow keys to move over each partition, check the last line.
If it's a 500GB partition and you see a message with "+ Backup", it's a good candidate for the recovery: set the partition as P(rimary)
On next screen, choose Write, confirm, Quit and reboot

But before starting testdisk, you need to umount the 1TB partition from this disk, otherwise the disk will be in read-only.

All of them have numbers and only the one posted in the screenshot has names to them. I am trying to get a partition from the Hard Drive. By unmounting it and quitting TestDisk, will my recovery still be on there? There are roughly 50+ numbers of which 15+ say they're found using the backup sector. None of the options say "+ Backup". What do you recommend I do?

For some partitions, there should be a message like "HFS+ blocksize=4096 + Backup" or "HFSX blocksize=4096 + Backup".
If they overlaps, it's a good idea to try the first one.
Post the testdisk.log file, it will be easier to tell you which one to select.
