Writing FileSystem to Read-Only Flash Drive

#1 Post by crescal »

Hello, is it possible for me to make my flash drive usable again? I am not that interested in the recovery part.

I am using a macbook air, and disk utility does not allow me to partition my flash drive.

diskutil does not work either, I either get the message "/dev/disk2: Permission denied" or "Error: -69877: Couldn't open device".

This is what diskutil info returns:

Device Identifier: disk2
Device Node: /dev/disk2
Whole: Yes
Part of Whole: disk2
Device / Media Name: Flash Disk

Volume Name: Not applicable (no file system)

Mounted: Not applicable (no file system)

File System: None

Content (IOContent): None
OS Can Be Installed: No
Media Type: Generic
Protocol: USB
SMART Status: Not Supported

Total Size: 4.1 GB (4110417920 Bytes) (exactly 8028160 512-Byte-Units)
Volume Free Space: Not applicable (no file system)
Device Block Size: 512 Bytes

Read-Only Media: Yes
Read-Only Volume: Not applicable (no file system)

Device Location: External
Removable Media: Yes
Media Removal: Software-Activated

Virtual: No
OS 9 Drivers: No
Low Level Format: Not supported

Is there any way to make this flash drive usable again?
