Quick wiped my xdrive. Desperately need more than just raw files.

#1 Post by OneOfMany »

Hi,

I have a problem. My external hard drive, a 1TB WD Passport, the same place I've used to back up my entire life for the past decade, has been wiped. I mistakenly "quick wiped" it while trying to set up as a recovery drive. I understand that things are not good because the recovery drive process writes to the disk after wiping so I may not get everything. Since it happened, I've been learning and trying anything I can to restore my (~800 gigs of) data. I've tried a bunch of the software but haven't really gotten the results I was looking for (or even understood the results that I've gotten half the time, especially from the testdisk/photorec bundle).

It is critically important that I'm able to recover the folder/organisation. Based off of what you see in these screenshots --- http://imgur.com/a/ibsVc, what can you tell me about my situation? Would you recommend a different strategy? Should I be trying to repair the partition or the filesystem? What are my odds of success?

Thanks so much for replying. I'm really freaking out over here.

Regarding testdisk, apparently when you mix 'freaking out' and 'don't know what I'm doing' you get the wrong screenshots. I did run a full search but it gave me an error message: Can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged. I was able to get a bunch of raw files from photorec but I let it run for 4 days straight with no end in sight so I stopped the process. So the information is "there" right? It's just missing something to put it all together into 1 coherent piece.

You seem to know your stuff. Based off of the results of the other programs, do you have any idea why I received the error message/what I can do to fix things?
