Partition and Recover Dell Hard Drive

#1 Post by allcheck10 »

My teen son's hard drive recently went down and somehow lost the boot partition. The hard drive is from a Dell 3455 all-in-one that started with windows 7 and was updated to windows 10 over a year ago.

I have run testdisk and have no idea where to go from this point. Do I do deep search? How do I decide whether a partition is Primary, * bootable, Logical, and Deleted.

Please see the photo for quick search results.

Thanks in advance for any assistance that can be offered.

https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf contains instructions to deal with deleted partition and also with system that doesn't boot.
Read this document and identify if it's a problem of deleted/missing partition, corrupted filesystem...
Please provide all the information and copy/paste the testdisk.log file content. It will be easier to understand what you are trying to do.

I will track down the log file this evening. I know that with diskpart in cmd, the first partition showed as "raw" and the pc could not find a bootable drive. In general, would I fix the partitions or corrupted filesystem first?

Here is the summary of the log file. The actual log file is too long to copy/paste and goes over post limits. Is there a certain part of the log file taht would help?

If the partition is seen as raw you need to fix that first.
