Hopefully I'm doing this correctly

#1 Post by Jillie »

I have a 1TB external drive that suddenly stopped showing up in My Computer yesterday. I can see it in device manager and disk management. I kept getting a pop up telling me I had to format it before it could be used but I don't want to do that, there are 10 years of family pictures plus other items that I want/need. Luckily I came upon the video on YouTube for TestDisk and I have it running now. It's been running for 11 hours and says it has 35 hours to go. I didn't see the steps that said to analyze or choose Intel etc... I'm attaching some screenshots with the hopes that you'll tell me it is working. :(

If PhotoRec is still in pass 0 after one hour, the disk is probably encrypted or there is an hardware problem.
Looks like you will have to contact a data recovery company...
