HDD RAW Help

#1 Post by pctc »

Toshiba laptop had black scrren with cursor, so I pulled the hdd and connected it to another computer. It wants me to format, and I cannot access. Disk Management shows 2 drives, one HDDRECOVERY (Healthy, Active, Primary Partition) and the other RAW (Healthy, Primary Partition). It also shows a Healthy EISA Configuration portion. I ran gsmartcontrol and it passed. When I run Testdisk Analyse and then Quicksearch, it shows 3 results (all in green):

* HPFS - NTFS ... [SYSTEM]
P HPFS - NTFS ... [TI106321W0B]
P HPFS - NTFS ... [HDDRECOVERY]

When I hit p for the second one, I can see pretty much all my files.

Can someone tell me what my next step should be to either recover my data or make it bootable again.
Thanks!

Sorry, I'm a novice. Where do I find the log file? There is not one listed that I can see.

I did realize that I had not moved forward to run a Deep Search. I have started that and have received a read error at 200/135/6 (lba=3221510). It is moving very slowly.

Thanks again for any help.

As there are bad sectors, you need to clone the disk to a new empty disk using ddrescue as described in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf
It's not really for novice...
