suddenly my 6TB harddisk become corrupt and the geometry also change, i've already update the driver in device manager, nothing has change.
i've been thinking of changing my harddisk geometry to this below data i've gather from seagate's site below:
https://www.seagate.com/www-content/pro ... 57960a.pdf
https://www.seagate.com/www-content/pro ... 05918d.pdf
i've also already try using easeus and gparted to read that disk, but i've got zero result (corrupt/error)
my harddisk is this:

You should try a dco (Device Configuration Overlay) restore and an hpa (Host Protected Area) restore.
Use hdparm from a Linux LiveUSB, see https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf :

Code: Select all

hdparm --dco-restore /dev/sdc
hdparm -N /dev/sdc
hdparm -N XXXX /dev/sdc

I've try what you've suggested , here is the result:

Code: Select all

eriol@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb
[sudo] password for eriol:

/dev/sdb:
read() failed: Input/output error
Timing buffered disk reads: read() failed: Input/output error

eriol@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm --yes-i-know-what-i-am-doing --dco-restore /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 issuing DCO restore command
 HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(dco_restore) failed: Input/output error

 eriol@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm -N /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 READ_NATIVE_MAX_ADDRESS_EXT failed: Input/output error

eriol@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm -N /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 READ_NATIVE_MAX_ADDRESS_EXT failed: Input/output error
eriol@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm -N XXXX /dev/sdb
XXXX: No such file or directory

eriol@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm -N /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 READ_NATIVE_MAX_ADDRESS_EXT failed: Input/output error
when I want to check the harddisk using Gparted, this notification show up
Image

and i ignored it
Image

the notification repeat show up about 4-5 times, and the result in gparted is like this
Image

the result after i try fsck

Code: Select all

root@ubuntu:~# fsck -a /dev/sdb
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
fsck.ext2: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/sdb
Could this be a zero-length partition?
root@ubuntu:~# fsck -y /dev/sdb
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
e2fsck 1.42.9 (4-Feb-2014)
fsck.ext2: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/sdb
Could this be a zero-length partition?

the result of hdparm -I

Code: Select all

eriol@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdb
[sudo] password for eriol:

/dev/sdb:

Looks like you have to use your warranty to get a new disk...
If you need to recover some data, you will have to contact a data recovery company.

thanks for the advice :)
sadly i bought the external hard disk at 2012, been damage 3 times.
during 3 years warranty period, 9 months in the clinic, i'm practically really used it for 2y3m :(
now i'm wondering does torrent software can really damage hard disk by insert new file the already full capacity hard disk
after all i try to format the harddisk to GPT and fail again
