hitachi 500gb is no longer accesible

#1 Post by kumarjay75 »

hi ,

i have a hitachi 500 gd external drive which is inaccessible after i accidentally dban it . however the dban program only ran for 2 percent i have quickly unplugged the usd hdd.

now wheni plug it back to computer i am not able to see it under my computer however can be seen under disk management with unallocated message.

i am able to see the files on the hdd using other programs , but unable to recover .

when i run the testdisk it completes the quick search however am i stuck in window where it say the the hdd is too small and gives no further options to move forward.

i will upload the screenshort . please advise

Did you use TestDisk 6.14-32bit?

Normally there should be continue displayed to move forward if you press enter?
Can you repeat your diagnose as far as possible?
So at least, I'll get infos about your current situation.
I would need infos form Analyse and Quick Search first.
But I assume if you wrote 2 percent into your file system, then it might be damaged.
But to judge your situation I'd need more infos.

There is no partition in your partition table anymore.
Testdisk.log was aborted.
Would it be possible to run Deeper Search?
It's not Quick Search.
Reason is, I assume that your boot sector could be overridden also.
That's why I'd like to try to find your backup of the boot sector and have a try to list your data.
If Deep Search finds your partition, then press p to have a try to list your files.
Please let me know, did you see your data or an error message?

Would it be possible to zip and upload the testdisk.log?
If no partition was found, you can try to repeat Deeper Search using partition table type None.
It takes a little bit longer.
You'll find partition table type None after selecting your affected disk.
Please upload the log also.
You also can copy and paste the content of your log.

The scan only provides some infos about FAT-partitions.
Please let it finish.
The backup of the boot sector is normally located at the end of the partition/volume.
I assum it was a NTFS partition?
Did you only use one partition using the whole space?
