system disk almost full after deep scan another disk

#1 Post by jethro »

Hello, there is my strange situation.
Deep analysis by of the problem disc (1Tb, via usb) lasted three days and almost reached 90%. On the third day, the computer stopped responding and I had to restart. After that I saw message -that system drive is completely full (although previously there had over 400Gb free place). Verification of the system disk did not find any problem. Maybe there are some temporary files somewhere?

If the scanned disk contains a lot of bad sectors, the log file testdisk.log may grow very big. Check if you can find this file and delete it.

If you please, there is main question - about lost partition on the problem disk (fat32, single partition, 1Tb, ext usb hdd).

Quick analysis was good, testdisk found partition, but on a question 'Use Left/Right Arrow keys to CHANGE partition characteristics from 'D' = Delete left-hand side on the screenshot to 'P' = Primary?' I changed partition characteristic from '*' to 'P'.
After that, a quick analysis don't find partition. Deep analysis lasted more than three days, at the end of which the computer stopped responding...
In that extra big logfile I have 'read err: Device not configured'
May be, I need to try repair boot sector?
