Huawei Anroid 8 Phone file recovery problems

#1 Post by elementorgan »

Environment:
Linux Mint 19 Tara Default Configuration
Phone: Huawei p smart FIG-LX1, o/s anroid 8.0.0, Not Encypted

I am trying to retrieve deleted files off my mobile phone.

I have set the phone into USB Debugging mode and connected to PC
USB Configuration = MTP

The phone auto mounts successfully as
HiSuite
FIG LX1

HiSuite contains the following files
Autorun.inf
Document
HiSuiteDownLoader.exe
HiSuite.ico

FIG LX1 contains
Internal Storage
SD Card

Internal Storage contains the following files
Alarms,Android,backups,baidu,com.danale.unify,com.danale.video,DanaleCamera,DCIM,Download,HiDisk,Huawei,HuaweiSystem,internalstorage.txt
log,Mob,Movies,Music,Notifications,Pictures,Podcasts,Ringtones,Sounds,WhatsAppard

I am able to access any of the above files and folders

SD Card - empty

Running sudo photorec_static (PhotoRec 7.1-WIP) displays the following options
1. Disk /dev/sda - 1000 GB / 931 GiB (RO) - ST1000LM035-1RK172
2. Disk /dev/sr1 - 3385 KB / 3306 KiB (RO) - Linux File-CD Gadget

I select 2, then get only
> P ISO 0 0 1 1652 0 1 1653 [HISUITE]

I select above (P ISO), then I select
>[ Other ] FAT/NTFS/HFS+/ReiserFS/...

I select directory for recovered files and then the following is displayed
Disk /dev/sr1 - 3385 KB / 3306 KiB (RO) - Linux File-CD Gadget
Partition Start End Size in sectors
P ISO 0 0 1 1652 0 1 1653 [HISUITE]

7 files saved in /home/broc/Documents/recup_dir directory.
Recovery completed.

The recup_dir directory only contains the following files
f0000113_HiSuiteDownLoader_EXE,f0001069.pdf,f0001165.icns,f0001189.pdf,f0001511.plist,f0001515.plist,f0001545.icns,report.xml

For some reason the PhotoRec utility does not appear to be able to access the main Internal Storage of the phone.
My wife has the same phone and results in exactly the same recovered files.

I know that I have many deleted pics and video clips, but the utility does not appear to be able to recover them.

Am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be much apreciated.

Thank you

PhotoRec can recover data when the phone is connected in USB mass storage mode. It will not work in MTP configuration.

Thank you for your reply.

I have put the phone into developer mode, when the phone is connected, I get the following options
Charge only
MTP
PTP
RNDIS (USB Ethernet)
Audio Source
MIDI

I have to select one of them, but it doesn't matter which one I select, the result is the same as in my original post.

The procedure for putting Android 8.0.0 into USB Mass Storage Mode is different to previous android versions as described here

http://www.device-recovery.com/how-to-c ... orage-mode

see section 'Turn on USB Mass Storage mode in Android 4.2 or later versions Android 6/7/8'

I have followed the procedure to the letter but no luck I'm afraid. The same 7 files get recovered and no others.

Thank you

Photorec has less success on new Android phones (After Android 5.0) as well as other data recovery software. If I was not wrong, the phone should be rooted first before recovery.
