Help me to recover 3TB HD strange problem.

#1 Post by samsagaz »

Hi guys, i purchase a new system with a new HD.

My system have an agility 3 SSD as boot with w7 x64 and a few 1.5TB disks. So i added a new 3TB one and move all the content from 2 of my small 1.5tb to the new 3tb ones. While was copying the 2nd HD to the new one, i noticed that some of the old files that i moved was not possible to run or read it. so i stopped the move and reboot the PC.

after that no more 3TB hard disk show on windows.

i checked bios and everything OK, checked harddisk from windows and show me an empty hd without partitions but show me as 2tb instead 3tb.

so i run testdisk and after deeper search found like 15 partions but after 100% is done i cant access to any program, looks like the PC is soooooo lagged.

i really want to check if any of the partions that testdisk found have at least some of the file to try to recover it.

tryied to use photorec too , but just recover 20-30 files OK, the other that recover have wronng data, for example videos files that are recovered have wrong data and are not possible to play it. txt files have wrong data too, and exe files / images too....

well testdisk take like 3 days to get to read 100% of the disk and after finish cant do anything :(

please help me to try to restore at least some of the files.

regards

A 3 TB-disk requires a GUID partition table (GPT).
Intel MBR only supports disks up to 2.2 TB.
Might be possible that your disk is basic (Intel MBR) instead of GPT?
To check it, please have a look at your disk management console!
Using a disk larger than 2.2 TB as an Intel MBR disk can cause loss of data.
It's possible that windows writes to the limit of 2.2 TB and starts writing at the beginning of the disk.
So data could be overwritten?
But this is only a worst case scenario.
In most cases, if windows starts to write at the beginning, partition are lost, so that no data are overwritten.

Do you have aby idea, did you use your disk as GPT or Intel MBR?
How is your disk displayed in your disk management console now?
I'd like to see the size 2 TB etc.. also.
Might be necessary to convert it to GPT and using the whole disk (3 TB) to get some reasonable results.
Information will follow.

Thanks for your support, i converted the disk to GPT before start copy the files.

After finish the scan (brute) i get the following info.

Image

after that the system was tooo slow, i need to reboot because the mouse or keyword dont work after like 4 more hours of wait.

thats is a lot of partitions that found and cant do anything with that data.

Btw, using other soft i can make a new GPT partition, but are scared about to loose all my files i want to try to recover as much files as possible.

Using other softwares to recover files i get the files corrupted.
