First: Why do other programs like acronis check partition table as ok, while TD says not ??
I often saw this !
In actual case I made a clone of a 1 TB HDD HGST 2,5 with 900 GB data to a SSD.
The clone works only for some weeks, then PT defect, no reason !
Saw this several times.
In the end I I made an extra backup of C: to clone, this works longer, but also defect PT after some weeks,
one time after external virus scan by a rescue CD, next after a restart from hibernation.
Sometimes TD says PT of original is ok, sometimes not ! Though original working since years !
But the clone to SSD is different, I must assume that PT is not correct copied !
In addition TD always said the clone has EFI/GPT though it has Intel/MBR ! Why ??
Acronis said at SSD PT is ok, but after crash it finds only some ext4 or FAT12 !
As attachment the PT of original and clone and others !
After one crash of SSD PT the first 14 999 sectors were wiped out, only zeros.
Also other PT programs see little 1 MB partition empty before every partition, but acronis and TD do not show !
At least the clone either by acronis, macrium or others programs is not correct, why ?? I cannot find any reason.
Esp. concerning first sectors and PT and MBR. Seems so !
General problems with PT technique by TD and others !

How should I answer this question?profsurgical wrote: ↑20 Aug 2019, 11:59 First: Why do other programs like acronis check partition table as ok, while TD says not ??

Why does LibreOffice load partly broken files and Microsoft Office does not?
English sentences contain at subject and a verb. Surgeons should be able to provide this.In actual case I made a clone of a 1 TB HDD HGST 2,5 with 900 GB data to a SSD.
The clone works only for some weeks, then PT defect, no reason !
Who?Saw this several times.
Try to avoid combining a dual boot environment with hibernation. In the end I I made an extra backup of C: to clone, this works longer, but also defect PT after some weeks,
one time after external virus scan by a rescue CD, next after a restart from hibernation.
Either run just one installation where you may hibernate or use the dual boot environment only with complete shutdown.
This is too unprecise to answer.Sometimes TD says PT of original is ok, sometimes not ! Though original working since years !
How do you now?But the clone to SSD is different, I must assume that PT is not correct copied !
How come you pretend to know better than Testdisk does?In addition TD always said the clone has EFI/GPT though it has Intel/MBR ! Why ??
Why do you always use exclamation marks?Acronis said at SSD PT is ok, but after crash it finds only some ext4 or FAT12 !
How do you know?As attachment the PT of original and clone and others !
After one crash of SSD PT the first 14 999 sectors were wiped out, only zeros.
What you call partition is probably empty space. Also other PT programs see little 1 MB partition empty before every partition, but acronis and TD do not show !
This is completely incomprehensible. At least the clone either by acronis, macrium or others programs is not correct, why ?? In cannot find any reason.

Re: General problems with PT technique by TD and others !
Why dont you answer my question ??
There is an intact PT to be seen, but the one of the clone is different ! Why ??
And the original is an MBR partition, the clone one is always checked as an EFI/GPT !
Why ??
And acronis and other programs said the PT is ok and dont find any problems even at the clone PT !
Who ? Me, after several clones who got defect by defect PT,
maybe the SSD has some problems by clone procedure, most manufacturers say clone should not be done
but new installation,
though most users make clones of their existing system
instead of time consuming new installation !
How do I know ?? This is shown by the screenshot ! The cloned PT is not the same of the original as to be seen !
I use exclamations because it is important and I had some problems with TD since years !
Esp. concerning PT !
Other programs say ok but TD says not ok !
So I must assume different methods or algorithms to check PT !
That after one crash or defect PT 14999 sectors were zeroed or empty I saw this by acronis DD where you can check all sectors of HDD or SSD.
So the clone programs in my case ! did not copy
the PT correctly,
reason is not clear ! This can be seen in the screenshots with different PT of clone and original !
Perhaps the controller of SSD is not ok, I tried this several times as written above
and in every attempt PT of clone gets defect after some weeks !
It is a cheap Samsung QVO 860 1 TB 4 bit technology, but this has to work too !
So may be because of this cheap one or because I have 7 partitions and 850 GB of 930 GB are filled with data.
But I got an exchange of this SSD, but the problem persists !
But even in this case,
why is the PT of clone not that of original as TD said ??
Though acronis says it is ok,
but defect after some weeks without any reason, no side effects from outside, no BSOD and so on.
Perhaps TD is right and acronis not, but the defect occurs later by a destroyed partition table
by itself or outer influences I cannot verify !
So a curious problem.
But on the other hand I often experienced with HDDs
that TD said PT is not ok, though working fine without any problems.
This is a general problem of TD for me, which I cannot understand.
OT:
It does not matter whether surgeon or living under the bridge,
some people have stress
and use short sentences without verb
which can be understood by everyone !

Re: General problems with PT technique by TD and others !
I can't answer due to the lack of information.
I don't like people shouting at me.There is an intact PT to be seen, but the one of the clone is different ! Why ??
Ask in the Acronis forum!
Hint:
Depending on the Acronis product, the partition table is modified on purpose which is different from how dd or ddrescue behaves.
