Apple OEM 320GB HD

#1 Post by deyoung6969 »

I have a Hitachi HDT721032SLA Hard drive. It is an OEM out of a Apple iMac. Can it be changed so that I can use it with my Windows system. I would like to use it with a bootable partition and the rest storage. I understand some things when it comes to computers, but this is looking like greek to me. Is this possible?

Normally, it should be possible to use your HDD.
Windows doesn't support HFS+ partitions.
That's why you should backup data first (if important data are available).
Under Apple and disk utilities please delete your HFS+ partition, because windows doesn't recognize it.
Then you'd be able to partition and format your disk using windows.

Unfortunately, I do not have an Apple. I will have to look in my storage room. I think I have something in there. Are there any programs which can mimic an Apple?

Can "TestDisk" do the deletion?

TestDisk is only able to clear Intel MBR partition table.
I would like to use it with a bootable partition and the rest storage.
Looks like that it should be possible now.

Looks just as easy.
I already tried that, but it's a long time ago and windows didn't recognize it.
It was unknown.
In this case I used gparted drom a LiveCD.
But something you can try would be, if you want to install windows on your PC using your Windows CD, you'll get automatically to a disk management console, where you can decide to delete partitions.
Please have a try to delete your partition (probably unknown).
Then press the appropriate key to create a new one.
Just type in how much space you want to use for your OS.
Leave the other space empty.
After installing windows, have a look into your disk mangement console to create your second partition for your data.

I thought it best to let you know that going to install Windows did the trick. No Problem. All I had to do was delete the existing partition, create the one for my "C" drive & whoa - it did it!!
I Thank You ever so much
